Natural pools in Thalpe is one of the must see places when you visit Galle. These pools feel like man made pools but they are not. All are natural and made by rock or some coral reefs. You are able to see around 10 pools which are 2 feet deep. It is a unique experience to all who love a sea bath.
How to get there
If you are coming from Southern express way you have to exit from Galle. If you plan to come by train, get off from Thalpe station. Thalpe is not far from Galle and Mirissa. It is around 30 minutes’ drive from Galle. The location is mainly situated in Galle-Colombo main road. But there is no sign or name of the beach. So, it is easy to miss the place.
When we there in last month, we also passed the location 2 times. If you are driving, go slowly near the painted wall. Other thing to note is the car park is small. So if it is crowded you may have to park it beside the road.
Enjoying Sea Bath
There is a changing room which is not the most well-maintained place, but it’ll be good enough. Otherwise, you can change inside your own vehicle. Don’t forget your sandals, camara and sun cream. The rock is little bit slippery. So, be careful when you walk. But you will feel comfortable once you are in the sea. There was a lifeguard when we visited who watch over waves and people. Always follow their advice when you are in water.
Most pools are not that deep. Usually, it is around 2 feet. During our trip we got a pool that close to the sea. That was an amazing experience. It looks like a jacuzzi with white snow form. Big waves come and passes us. But we always felt safe and comfortable the whole time.
We didn’t encounter much crowd. We were lucky on that day. We were able to capture our own pool with out much trouble or waiting.
Best time to go there
Personally, I think best time is the evening. Because in mid-day time is very sunny and hot in out there. If you are coming, make sure to come in the evening.
Amazing experience
As I told earlier, we were lucky enough to have a pool to ourselves. I was little nervous as the waves keep crashing over the rock. But the pool was very clear, calm, and not too deep.
The Natural pools in Thalpe is simply amazing. That natural beauty is priceless.
